Nalolo Development Society (NDS) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) that works towards the improvement of the living standards of the disadvantaged rural communities in Zambia through people “centred self-help projects”.
Founded on April 12, 2005, Nalolo Development Society (NDS) has a rural membership of 4512 members and 17 action groups in 1 district. Nalolo Development Society endeavours to bring socio-economic development and justice in rural areas

Rural Communities in Zambia live in absolute poverty, a condition of life so limited by Malnutrition, disease, squalid surroundings, high infant mortality and low life expectancy beneath any reasonable definition of human decency.

The reasons why rural people in Zambia still suffer from poverty mainly relate to inappropriate domestic policies which were largely characterized by state takeovers of private businesses, heavy state involvement in the economy ,price controls ,poor resource allocation and utilization , inefficiencies in public administration which discouraged investment together with Zambia’s development strategy ,which was accompanied by low producer prices, high taxation of farmers and neglect in resource allocation, was biased against rural development and failed to generate employment and income growth in rural areas .This left rural people with inadequate incomes to meet the basic needs of life even though they live in areas rich with natural resources.

Poverty affects over 77% of rural people who fall into the “VERY POOR” category in Zambia and has remained prevalent and deep. Rural people are affected in areas of Food Security, Employment, Health, Education and Sanitation such that it is difficult to convince people that there is economic growth in the country because it has not trickled to rural people.

Poverty can be eradicated in rural areas through sustainable natural resource utilization to create employment, empower communities and build the capacities of rural people.

If this can be taken seriously and acted upon by non governmental organizations (NGO’s) cooperating partners and well wishers all over the world, rural people’s livelihoods would improve greatly.

Taking cognizance of all the problems that rural people are facing and motivated by the desire to ameliorate the living standard of the disadvantaged rural communities, Nalolo Development Society (NDS) was established to contribute to a more meaningful and practical sustainable rural development with the full participation of disadvantaged rural communities in Zambia.
